Omura (大村) (~150)
This is an old Omura from Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan. Omura from Nagasaki were mined before
Wakayama Omura and I'm happy I have both types to test out.
Personal Notes:
For coarse Whetstones they are consistant without any toxic inclusions.
I purchased my rough and irregular shape Wakayama Omura for less $20 CAD mostly to make Hamons
because I've read that ground Omura is mixed with clay, charcoal, etc. by Japanese Swordsmiths. Here I
used a rasp file and rubbed the back of the Whetstone for a few minutes to end with a nice pile of ground
Omura powder. This method works with other Whetstones and I have made Uchigumori polishing powder
the same way. I used wax paper for easier collection because powders sometime stick to paper.
